The Bahá'í Faith
is one of the world's youngest independent religions, which
began about 160 years ago in the Middle East.
Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh,
is regarded by Bahá'ís
as the most recent in a line of Messengers of God that extends
back beyond recorded time. Baha'is believe that all the world
religions have the same divine origin and have been revealed
progressively, rather like the chapters of a book.
A central theme of the Baha'i Faith is that humanity is a
single race and that barriers like race, class, creed, nation
and gender need to be broken down, as we are all equal and
need to work together to establish the foundations of a global
society.
Bahá'ís say
daily obligatory prayers, observe a fasting month each year,
and are urged to mix with the followers of all religions in
a spirit of friendliness and fellowship.
Bahá'u'lláh
wrote: "The earth is but one country, and mankind its
citizens". "Let your vision be world-embracing,
rather than confined to your own self."
